Go behind the scenes Become a Junior Zookeeper |
|
Ever wondered what it takes to keep a Muntjac Deer happy? Or what type of fruit a vervet monkey likes best?
Or maybe you just want to get face-to-face with a Grant’s Zebra?
Either way, the Noah’s Landing’s “Junior Zookeeper” program might be the perfect destination for your budding animal lover this summer.
Noah’s Landing, a non-profit nature center in Coats, will be offering six weeks of hands on, educational fun this summer. Designed to bring kids “face to face” with animals from around the globe, the Junior Zookeeper program is a unique opportunity to learn life science skills in a fun and interactive environment. Learn why a fennec fox carries around such big ears or why an Australian emu is tougher than it looks. Get the inside scoop on why insects, if they grew as big as humans, could take over the world or how African crested porcupines kill more lions than almost any other animal in Africa.
The Junior Zookeeper program consists of weeklong training weeks, divided by age:
——————————-
Junior Explorer Camp Ages 6-8
Specially designed for our younger campers, this fun-filled week of games, songs, educational movies and crafts will introduce campers to the animals on our farm and basic science with lessons in animal diet, adaptations and habitats. Each day will also include “volunteer time” for junior explorer to learn, through doing, what it takes to care for our critters.
Junior Volunteer Camp Ages 9-11
With games, crafts and hands-on classes in store, our Junior Volunteers will participate in a fun and interactive week of learning and volunteering. Each day will include “Meet and Greet” with the animals on the farm, “Volunteer Time” so kids can learn basic caretaking skills and educational classes that explore ecosystems, conservation and preservation, animal teeth and adaptation skills. Our Junior Volunteers will complete a special weeklong project to leave their mark at Noah’s Landing.
Junior Caretaker Camp Ages 12-14
Junior Caretakers will participate in an intensive, interactive week of learning, designed to turn them into animal and zookeeping experts! Each day will include time to interact with our animals, “volunteer time” to learn basic caretaking, and hands-on courses in basic biology. Each day will conclude with a special “Junior Zookeeper” challenge to test their skills in habitat construction, educational outreach and animal enrichment. Our Junior Caretakers will also complete a special weeklong project to benefit the critters at Noah’s Landing.
